Fawcett Komollo is a Kenyan licensed and practicing Physical Planning Practitioner; a lecturer of Spatial Planning and Design at the Technical University of Kenya where he also pursues his PhD research focusing on various technical and theoretical theory questions on urban informality, informal urbanism and informal urban futures.
His areas of expertise and interests include urban planning, slum upgrading, planning for human settlements, transportation and infrastructure planning, planning policy and the just cities ideals. With experience spanning to almost 20 years in practice, Fawcett sees himself now as a “praxitioner” – his current preoccupation is in seeking a functional alignment between planning practice and knowledge. In this regard, Fawcett’s interests include exploration of interventions that could contribute to the blurring of boundaries between academic research and planning practice where he holds that each must robustly feed into the other for the betterment of both. Fawcett is the current President of the Kenya Institute of Planners (KIP).
