Arh. Dr. Camilus Thomas Lekule (1953) PhD, a senior lecturer (retired) and consultant, has a rich blend of professional and academic experience in architecture. He is the catalyst for Urban Design studies in the country and an advocate of urban sustainability – with cultural and environmental stewardship. He was a senior lecturer at the School of Architecture and Design - Ardhi University. Now he is the managing
director of Afri-Arch Associates Ltd (architects) firm located in Mwenge, Dar es Salaam. Lekule asks, "Do we have African cities or cities in Africa?" Furthermore, he believes in the notion that architecture has its roots in people’s culture and the natural environment. Living in the city is practically where we meet for everyday activities.
Apart from lecturing in Urban Design and general Architecture for M.Arch, he has designed several buildings, including the Vice-president’s Office (Ikulu Ndogo) and Residence at Tungiuu Zanzibar, the UDBS Complex at the University Dar es Salaam,The Ubungo KKKT Church, Changanyikeni Catholic Church, Kwetu Mbagalla Street Girls Centre, schools, and residential houses. He put up the magnificent building for the Ngorongoro Tourism Centre in Arusha. He was the country’s leader of the New Dar Es Salaam Master Plan 2016 - 2036. For the present time, Dr. Lekule is the main adviser to several companies undertaking investment business in partnership with your ministry, specifically regarding projects on new smart cities and sovereign community settlements, common facilities, and infrastructure geared towards sustainable economies. Also, production, as well as cooperative investment and global-grade enablement under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and private investment initiatives in Tanzania.
